Our Story

XO HORSE & CATTLE: Past, Present & Future

The XO brand can be traced all the way back to my great grandfather, Joe Schomer in the late 1800’s. XO started on a large ranch in Fort Pierre, SD and focused on raising top horses and cattle. Joe’s legacy was passed to his son, again, Joe, who was one of the original supporters of AQHA and had some of the very first horses ever registered. Joe was known for raising top horses that could hold up on the ranch, but could also perform in an arena. Joe also worked closely with rodeo and Casey Tibbs.

The XO brand was resurrected about ten years ago in a partnership between Joe and Allie Schomer and Judy Schomer. The partnership still maintains ownership of numerous AQHA horses that are raised and started by the Judy. These horses are carefully chosen for brains and bone—as they need to be able to perform both on the ranch as well as in the arena. It is an honor to try to continue the legacy that began so long ago.
